Workshops
We deliver a variety of workshops in subject areas including XML,
FrameMaker, DITA, structured authoring, and information modeling. Our
workshops range from a half-day to several days, depending on the
audience, the needs of the sponsoring organization, and the material to
be covered.
Our workshops are very popular with professional societies like the
Society for Technical Communication. We have
delivered workshops to STC chapters in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia,
Cleveland, Seattle, and the United Kingdom. We also supported the
Norwegian Computer Society and the annual Tekom conference in Germany.
Our workshops can provide much-needed exposure to tools and technologies
for audiences who may not be able to afford commercial training, and can
also provide a jump-start to companies who are considering a migration
to new authoring and publishing technologies.
Format
Our workshops are as interactive as possible. Sometimes we interact in a classroom setting,
on white boards and flip charts. For some software and technology workshops, we have each
student work on a personal computer (sometimes bringing their own laptops). We will
discuss technical and venue requirements when you book a workshop.
Terms
We negotiate terms for each workshop delivery on a case-by-case
basis. Some of our workshops are pro bono, with the sponsoring
organization (typically a local STC chapter) paying travel and lodging
expenses. Sometimes we negotiate a revenue-sharing arrangement. In many
cases, the sponsoring organization can generate a fair profit on a
workshop. For for-profit organizations or government entities, we charge
a standard on-site rate plus instructor expenses.
